Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the practice of inserting very

fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific anatomical points in the body (also known as acupuncture points) for therapeutic purposes.

These points are stimulated to restore health and prevent disease.

Acupuncture is an effective treatment for many conditions such as stress, anxiety, insomnia, hormonal imbalances, headache and migraine, digestive issues, injuries, weight loss, and neck and back pain.

Acupuncture is a very effective tool that activates the parasympathetic nervous system, our 'rest and digest' state. While in this state our body has the chance focus on imbalances and dysfunction supporting the body's return to health and wellness.

the health picture and context is individual but all patterns that exist in Chinese medical theory follow that of nature.

FAQs

what to expect on your first visit?

Due to the practices more holistic nature Samantha may ask you questions that seem unrelated to your primary issue (for example questions regarding your digestive function, sleeping habits or temperature regulation) this is all important information to direct your treatment.

In addition to asking questions Samantha will ask to see your tongue and feel your pulse. These are diagnostic methods used to observe the body's internal function.

when should i arrive for my treatment?

Please arrive at least 5 minutes before each consecutive treatment, this enables the space to run smoothly allowing you to receive the most from your treatment.

If you arrive late this will most likely decrease your treatment time.

how long will the session last?

A typical session will last up to 55 minutes. Each session begins with questions regarding your main complaint, tongue and pulse diagnosis. From here Samantha will develop an individualised point prescription and perform acupuncture.

Needle retention depends on your individual presentation, sometimes needles are retained for up to 30minutes other times only 5minutes is appropriate.

frequency of
treatments

This practice can be used to cure illness but it is essentially a system of preventative medicine used to prevent disease and promote health and well-being. Generally people seek help once signs and symptoms have manifested or have become chronic, this is a much harder way to treat.

Instead, I encourage you to support your body's autonomic balance by maintaining good health and keeping on top imbalances. Maintaining your health and continuous state of well-being.

At Grounded Medicine our intention is to encourage people to provide their mind, body and soul with the support they need on a regular basis.

Acupuncture works best when you commit to a course of several treatments in succession, therefore we typically suggest weekly sessions to begin followed by further discussion with Samantha who can assess what is best for your current condition, constitution and response to treatment, alongside you current lifestyle and diet. For some conditions a few treatments in the first week or two may be required to gain momentum, this is common for musculoskeletal and long standing chronic conditions.

what is your cancellation policy?

We have a 24hr cancellation policy. We understand that sometimes commitments change so please call or email us at least 24 hours  before you appointment if you need to reschedule or cancel. This allows us to open up the space to another person who would like a treatment.

If you need to cancel within 24 hours of your appointment you will still be charged for your session and no private health rebate will apply.

In an emergency situation this fee may be waved and will be considered on a case by case basis.

Thank you for respecting this policy, it allows us to run the clinic smoothly and enables us to continue providing treatments.
